We strongly recommend you to watch the videos rather than reading content but if you feel you don’t have ample time, then here’s the emotional story of this episode:-

Characters of the story:

It’s about a Christian priest, Father Siby Sebastian, and a Muslim man named Rasad Mohammed who was suffering from kidney failure. The names of the characters have been changed in the show, i.e., Father George Mathews and Abdul Nasser Mohammed, but we have used the real names. This incident took place in the state of Kerala where they met each other for the first time during a bus ride to Kochi on 25th Feb, 2013 and Rasad co-incidentally sat beside Father in the bus.

As Father is a compassionate man, he easily makes out with the face expressions of Rasad that he is in problem and asks him about it. Rasad starts telling him his story….

Rasad experiences vision problem:

In 2008, he went to work in Muscat and worked there for three years but then he felt some problem with his eyesight as he was not able to see properly. He had a discussion with his friend who suggested him to get his eyes checked but after check up, his eyes were found completely fine. Then the doctor asked him to go for blood tests but even after the reports came, the real problem was not discovered. The doctor provided some medication to Rasad but his problem persisted and he went to a different doctor this time who again got his blood tests done.

His actual disease:

When the reports of those tests came, they gave Rasad the shock of his lifetime. It was found that one of his kidneys was failed and only 10% of the other was functioning. He came back to India for proper treatment but it was a costly affair and his family was not very affluent.

Ray of hope:

Things were not very good but then suddenly, a ray of hope was seen when a person named Vijayan approached Rasad and promised him a kidney from a donor in exchange of Rs. 4 lakh, out of which Rs. 2.50 lakh were needed to be paid before transplant while he had to pay the remaining amount after the transplantation.

Vijayan went missing after taking money:

Rasad did as per Vijayan’s instructions and paid him the amount. Rasad’s aunty helped a lot by giving him money for transplant for which she took a loan from the bank. However, the day when Vijayan was supposed to call, he didn’t call and in fact, his phone was switched off. Rasad was very upset and contacted the staff person of the hospital who told him about Vijayan but all in vain. After few days, it was found that Vijayan was arrested by cops on the charges of illegal organ trafficking and the money that Rasad gave to him was seized and submitted in the court. He requested police officials to return him his money but it didn’t happen.

Father’s praiseworthy decision:

After listening to Rasad’s story, Father was so moved and touched that he decided to donate him one of his kidneys. At first, Rasad was not able to believe it but Father was actually willing to help him and he himself called Rasad for a meeting with doctors. Tests were conducted to make sure that there would be no problem after the transplant and it was definitely a divine thing that their kidneys matched 95%, a percentage which is not even easily found in blood relations.

The cause of donation:

Father Siby decided to donate his kidney to Rasad because one of his teachers, who is also a Father, did the same and told Father Siby that a human being can live with one kidney also. That day only, Father Siby decided that if he gets a chance to meet someone who needs a kidney, he will donate it.

Problem of money:

Finally, there was one problem and that was arranging for money for the transplant and further treatment. Father requested people to donate as much as they could. Soon people donated as per their capacity and now the transplant has been done.

Compassion – the ultimate human quality:

What makes human different from other species is the virtue of compassion. A compassionate person will go out of way to help another person irrespective of the fact whether the person is a known one or stranger, in the same manner as Father Siby helped Rasad and proved to the world that a person can live a normal life with one kidney also!
