There was a time when fans of Salman Khan used to worry about his wedding and wanted him to get married but now they have accepted that their favourite actor won’t get hitched.
However, do you know that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was once in a serious relationship with actress Sangeeta Bijlani and the two were about to get married? In fact, their wedding invitations had also been printed but the marriage was eventually called off, leading to speculation about the reasons behind the breakup.
During a candid conversation on Koffee with Karan, Salman Khan reflected on the time when he was ready to marry Sangeeta. When host Karan Johar asked if he ever seriously wanted to get married, Salman admitted, “There was a time when I really wanted to get married… With Sangeeta, cards were printed yaar.” Karan then humorously asked, “Did she catch you?” Salman, slightly flustered, replied, “Catch me where? No no,” laughing off the comment.

Karan Johar’s question hinted at Salman Khan’s involvement with Somy Ali, which reportedly caused tension in his relationship with Sangeeta. Salman and Somy had come close while working together, and it was rumoured that Salman used to meet Somy behind Sangeeta’s back. There were reports that Sangeeta had caught Salman with Somy, a claim that Somy confirmed in a recent interview.
During the interview, Somy Ali said, “I was living in Vindyachal (Uttar Pradesh) at that time. Salman used to climb the pipes and come to my room through my window. I found this act of Salman utterly romantic. It was a two-bedroom apartment. However, I remember one day he came over at around 10:30 am when this incident happened. He was still seeing Sangeeta at that time and in fact, their wedding cards had been printed as well.”
She further added, “Salman and I were sitting and talking in my room and Sangeeta walked in suddenly. She looked at Salman and said, ‘This is it. You have to make a choice.’ Salman told me, ‘Somy I’ll be back in 10 minutes.’ I assumed that he would go ahead and marry Sangeeta since the wedding cards had already been printed. But he came back to the room and told me that he had broken up with Sangeeta and he wanted to be with me. I felt like it was fate.”
During the same interview, Somy Ali revealed that some years later, she also apologized to Sangeeta Bijlani for breaking her marriage. Somy said, “I told her I was deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart. I was a child then and I did not know what I was doing. She told me ‘I don’t care, I am happily married to Azhar (Azharuddin, cricketer)’ but the next month, she filed for a divorce from him. I knew that what the 16-year-old Somy Ali did was wrong. She broke up a marriage. I wanted to take the higher road and apologise to Sangeeta.”
