You’ll Stop Using Mobile Data After Knowing How Telecom Operators Are Charging You Rs 10,000/GB!

With the introduction of Jio, the competition in the telecom market has become intense. This is a never ending battle because other operators are trying their best to stay ahead in the race. Jio started the trend of free data and very soon, even others followed. Earlier, other operators were just concerned about profits, but with the arrival of Jio, they have started thinking from the customer’s point of view.

One thing that people fail to realize is that many telecom operators are scamming them in the name of data. I am sure that many of you must have faced this situation, wherein the balance of your phone comes down from Rs 50 to Rs 10, due to extra data (Chargeable) that you use, after the data pack is over. Have you paid attention to this? If you are prepaid customer, you will be shocked to know that these companies are cheating you and are actually charging a whopping price for “1 GB” data, after the expiry of your data pack. Want to know how much? Well, some telecom operators are charging you Rs 10,000 for 1 GB of data; yes, you heard that right! Control yourselves as you are being fooled. Let us explain you the entire calculation.

Calculation of Rs 10,000/GB!

No doubt, operators are offering attractive packs these days and you might be thinking that you are getting the cheapest rate, isn’t it? No, you are wrong!

For instance, Airtel and Vodafone’s charges after the exhaustion of data packs are 10p/10kB. I am sure you must be knowing this rate card and must be under the impression that it’s cheap; when you calculate the price of 1 GB as per 10p/10kB rate, it comes to Rs 10,000! It falls under the category of “PayAsYouGo” i.e. paying only for the data used. Once you come to know this dark secret, you will never ever opt for it.

If you go for 10p/10kB plan, it costs Rs 10 for 1 MB and Rs 10,000 for 1 GB; the calculation is damn simple. Many customers have no clue about this; the operators smartly send an SMS after deducting the amount from the main balance. Shouldn’t they be seeking permission from the customers before deducting their balance? As soon as the customer’s data limit is exhausted, his data services should be discontinued and he should be informed about these extra charges.

Have a look at the table (as on year 2016 before Jio Launch) and know the rates of all telecom operators, so that you aren’t fooled next time.

Unethical practices!

Instead of fooling the customers, the companies should alert the user before the limit ends, but they don’t do so! Instead, the operators claim that they think for the customers and don’t want their data services to be interrupted. Based on these claims, they charge Rs 10,000 per GB from customers.

Ideally these operators should display a popup after consuming the data pack, saying “You have exhausted your free data pack limit. Clicking Yes will deduct the balance from your prepaid account. Do you want to continue? ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.”

How hard or difficult is to implement such kind of popup? Some broadband operators like BSNL already shows this message when data limit is exhausted.

However, the telecom players will not allow the implementation of this feature because they know that the user would prefer recharging the data pack again instead of paying hefty charges.

Currently, Vodafone is offering 56 GB of data on a recharge of Rs 346, which roughly means around Rs 7 per GB. Do you think the company can earn profits by offering data at Rs 7 per GB? Definitely not! To keep the company running, these operators need tactics like “PayAsYouGo” plans, so that customers can misguided and huge sums can be minted.

Amit Bhawani, founder and editor-in-chief was the first one to bring this unethical practice to our notice. Here’s the video explaining this unethical practice, you can watch the video here:-

We need to fight against this and stop this!

Set a limit: If your data pack offers free 1 GB data, you can set a limit at 800 MB. After 800 MB, you will get an alert and you’ll be saved from those charges.

Keep a minimal prepaid balance: If you don’t have sufficient balance, you can escape these unethical practices.

Monitor your statistics with apps: Jio has come up with MyJio app, through which users can track their account activities. Download such apps and keep tracking everything.

After comparing all other operators, we can just say one thing that Jio is simply the best! Yes, Jio is the real hero because there is no “PayAsYouGo” plan. It offers unlimited data and has kept in mind customers, customers and customers. Profits are a secondary thing for the company.

Next time, be very CAREFUL! We care for our readers and want to keep them informed about every wrong practice.
