The Indian cricket team’s head coach Rahul Dravid and the skipper Rohit Sharma are getting slammed a lot by Indian cricket fans after England crushed India by 10 wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 which was played at Adelaide Oval. This defeat has left the Indian cricket management with many questions and if they really want to improve the situation, they will have to find answers to these questions soon.
England won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Indian batters were able to put a total of 168/6 on the score board with the help of Virat Kohli’s gutsy knock of 50 and fiery knock of Hardik Pandya who scored 63 runs. Though this was a competitive total yet the English openers batted so well that they made a mockery of the Indian bowling and achieved the target in just 16 overs without losing even a single wicket.
After the match, Rohit Sharma held the Indian bowling and fielding responsible for the loss as he was of the opinion that they batted well towards the end to bring up a total of 168 runs and the pitch on which they played was not that type of pitch where a team could score that many runs in just 16 overs. Rohit Sharma also states that handling pressure is something which can’t be taught to everyone and at the same time, he also praised the English openers for wonderful batting.
Rohit Sharma was so much hurt that he didn’t even attend the post-match press conference and coach Rahul Dravid had to fill in for him. Dravid tells the mediapersons that they are very disappointed after finishing in semis as they would have liked to play the finals. Appreciating the England cricket team, Dravid said that they were better than team India in all the segments and he agreed that they should have scored some more runs. Rahul Dravid further states that overall they have a good run in the tournament and they can look at the things they have improved on, take positives and prepare for the next World Cup. He adds that they have been batting well and they also had a good last over but score should have been around 180-185 runs.
Indian cricket fans are particularly angry with the Indian openers – KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. While they are upset with KL Rahul because of his poor form and slow strike rate, Hitman has annoyed fans with his poor performance and there is no denying the fact that their inability to score runs at fast rate created pressure on the middle order batters which hampered the chances of India winning the tournament.
