The senior Bollywood actor Govinda may have been missing from the big screen nowadays but there was a time when he literally ruled Bollywood because he was not just a good lead actor but also a great dancer and his comic timing was superb too.
It won’t be wrong to say Govinda’s entry on the screen used to bring smiles on the faces of the audiences and he was the most successful with director David Dhawan. Together, Govinda and David Dhawan have given many hit movies. Recently during a podcast, David Dhawan opened up on his collaboration with Govinda and recalled some of the interesting incidents.
When David Dhawan was asked about Govinda’s habit of coming late, Dhawan shrugged it off by saying that the work always got completed. He called Govinda, the king of improvisation and termed it an important reason behind the success that they both achieved together.
David Dhawan also said that they used to have a special code when they felt that the scene was not working. In his words, “I would say ‘rubber hai scene, prolonged, khincha hua hai’. Govinda would say ‘David, main pura scene ek shot mein deta hun (David, I give complete scene in one shot)’.”
David Dhawan also revealed that producer Sohail Khan was ready but Salman Khan was not keen on working with Govinda in “Partner”. As per David, “I said ‘can we take Govinda and Salman bhai?’ He said damn good. Went to Salman bhai, he was not very keen. I told him, ‘come yaar, let’s do it, it will be a big thing’.” He recalled an incident from the film’s shoot and said, “Salman told me one day, when we were shooting in Bangkok, he said ‘David yaar, isse ladna… fayda nahi hai.”

Earlier, in an interview, Govinda revealed as to how he was asked by Salman to leave “Judwaa” for him. He said, “Uss time pe main Judwaa kar raha tha aur kisi din Salman (Khan) ne mujhe phone lagaya, 2-3 baje, aur kaha ki ‘Chichi Bhahiya aap kitni hit doge yaar?’ Maine bola kya hua? Woh bola ‘Woh jo picture aap kar rahe ho, Judwaa, woh aap band kar dijiye aur woh mujhe de dijiye. Director bhi aapko mujhe dena padega. Producer (Sajid Nadiadwala) bhi maine aap hi ka le liya hai’. Toh woh chalti film, wahan pe thehra di gayi hai, rok di gayi hai aur bandh kardi gayi. Aur woh Salman ko de di gayi thi.”

However, the good thing is that their relations are still cordial despite Govinda losing “Judwaa”.
