Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, recently referred to batting superstar Virat Kohli as the “Shahenshah” (King of Kings) during a lighthearted conversation where he connected famous Bollywood movie titles with the Indian cricketers. The World Cup-winning cricketer shared some interesting choices during a fun chat which he had during a cricket event.
Here are the nicknames that Gautam Gambhir gave to other cricket celebs:
Shahenshah : Virat Kohli
Badshah : Yuvraj Singh
Dabangg: Sachin Tendulkar
Angry Young Man: Gautam Gambhir (himself)
Khiladi : Jasprit Bumrah (emphasizing his crucial role in the team)
Mr. Perfectionist: Rahul Dravid
Gabbar: Shikhar Dhawan
Tiger: Sourav Ganguly
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s relationship has often been a topic of discussion due to their heated on-field exchanges, particularly during the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
However, the two seem to have moved beyond these scuffles, with a notable display of camaraderie when they hugged after a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this year.
Upon his appointment as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gambhir reflected on his relationship with Kohli, stating that their bond is private and not meant for media attention. He emphasized that they share a good relationship off the field and that their primary focus now is to work hard together to make India proud.
In the words of Gautam Gambhir, “Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public. What kind of a relationship I share with Virat Kohli… I think it’s between two mature individuals. On the field, everyone has got the right to fight for their own jersey and come back to a winning dressing room. But at the moment, we’re representing India, representing 140 crore Indians and I’m sure we’re going to be on the same page and try and make India proud.”
He further said, “I share a very good relationship off the field and will continue to do that. But yes, to make it more public what kind of a relationship… I think it’s between two individuals.”
Gambhir added, “I’ve had a lot of chats with him… we’ve shared messages. It’s not important what we discussed, how many chats have I had with him, after my announcement or before my announcement or during the game, after the games. Sometimes, just because we want headlines, it’s not important. Right now, the most important thing is we both are going to be working extremely hard to make India proud. And that’s our job.”
Here is the video of the interaction:
Gambhir’s next challenge as the head coach will be leading the Indian team in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The series opener is set to take place in Chennai, starting from September 19.
