Javed Akhtar, during his recent visit to the USA, shared that he and his son Farhan Akhtar now have to schedule their meetings five days in advance. He reflected on how, in the past, relatives could visit each other without prior notice, describing this new practice of making appointments as an American phenomenon that has now become common in their lives as well.

In his latest interview, Javed Akhtar is heard saying, “I have a very small family. I just have one son and one daughter, and me and Shabana (Azmi). It’s just me and Shabana who stay together. My daughter has a separate home, and my son has a separate home.”

He further said, “When we were little, we would say that in the US or England, even relatives call each other before they go over to someone’s house to meet. And other people would be shocked when they heard this. Now we are living that life and it feels perfectly fine.”

The lyricist added, “When I came here, some people asked me ‘You didn’t get Farhan along with you?’ Is he jobless or what? I have to call him before seeing him, or he calls me to ask when we can meet. Usually, we fix an appointment that’s after 3-5 days. This is bound to happen. Such is life.”

He compared humans with animals and said that even animals don’t dominate their kids after certain age. He said, “being too dominant on your children is a little unnatural. Look at animals, they bring up their kids with so much love, they sometimes die for their kids, but as soon as the kid grows up, they leave them. It’s just us humans who like to dictate to their 40-year-old children about what is right and wrong. It’s extremely unnatural.”

Farhan Akhtar who celebrated his birthday on January 9 will soon be seen in the film “120 Bahadur”. The movie is a tribute to Major Shaitan Singh Bhati PVC and the soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment. Excel Entertainment, co-owned by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, along with Amit Chandrra’s Trigger Happy Studios, has announced that “120 Bahadur” will release in theatres on November 21, 2025.

Set against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China war, the film draws inspiration from the legendary Battle of Rezang La, a historic event marked by extraordinary bravery and sacrifice. Farhan will portray the role of Major Shaitan Singh in the film.
