The Delhi High Court witnessed a tense moment when Karisma Kapoor’s children informed the bench that the university fees of one of them, currently studying in the United States, had reportedly gone unpaid for the past two months. What began as a simple update quickly drew the court’s attention, prompting Justice Jyoti Singh to urge both the sides to avoid turning the proceedings into something overly dramatic. She advised Priya Kapur’s legal team to ensure that such issues are settled privately, rather than being brought before the court again.

This exchange is part of a much larger legal battle. Samaira Kapur and her brother are challenging the validity of their late father Sunjay Kapur’s alleged will, a document tied to assets said to be worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore.
Representing the children, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani argued that under a matrimonial decree, Sunjay Kapur had been responsible for covering his children’s education and personal expenses. He claimed that since Priya Kapur currently oversees Sunjay’s estate, Samaira’s fees should have been paid but were not, causing concern for the family.
Priya Kapur, through senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, denied the allegations, calling them entirely false. He insisted that Priya has consistently provided for the children and that all dues, including university fees, have already been cleared. Rajiv Nayar suggested that the matter was brought up in court only to create media attention.
The hearing also touched on an interim injunction filed by the Kapoor siblings, seeking to prevent Priya from selling or transferring any assets belonging to their father until the dispute is resolved. The court will continue the detailed arguments next week.

Tensions within the family have surfaced before. The children have openly questioned the authenticity of the will and once referred to Priya as a “Cinderella stepmother”, accusing her of putting her own interests ahead of theirs. Priya, however, responded by stating that the children have already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.
The case remains complex and emotionally charged. Earlier, the court instructed Priya Kapur to provide a complete list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets, ensuring that every detail will be examined as the dispute continues to unfold.
