David Miller has built a reputation as one of cricket’s most dangerous finishers, known for his calm mindset and ability to handle pressure. But even the best have moments that stay with them and this was one of those nights.

In an intense IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, David Miller was left disappointed after a crucial decision in the final moments against Gujarat Titans. Delhi Capitals needed just 2 runs off the last 2 balls. Instead of taking a single and pushing the match into a Super Over, David Miller chose to go for the winning shot himself. The plan didn’t work and a run-out on the final delivery handed GT a dramatic 1-run victory.
The defeat ended Delhi Capitals’ unbeaten start to the season, following earlier wins against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. The loss was especially tough because David Miller had played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 41 off just 20 balls, keeping the chase alive after KL Rahul scored a solid 92 off 52 deliveries. Chasing 211, DC eventually finished at 209/8.
The next morning, DC shared a video of David Miller sitting alone, reflecting on the game before being comforted by head coach Hemang Badani. He also received support from captain Axar Patel and Kagiso Rabada.

While the decision sparked debate, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar backed David Miller. He explained that such decisions come from confidence and belief in one’s ability, especially after playing well. At the same time, he acknowledged that, in hindsight, giving the strike to Kuldeep Yadav might have been another option. He also praised Prasidh Krishna for delivering a near-perfect ball under pressure.
Delhi Capitals will now look to bounce back in their next match against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, hoping to move past a night that will be remembered for both brilliance and heartbreak.
