Speaking about emotional recovery, Kalki Koechlin explained that while therapy is helpful, it is not an instant solution. She believes that when someone is dealing with deep grief, it can even feel difficult to begin therapy right away. According to her, it’s important to first allow yourself to fully experience the pain instead of rushing to fix it. Over time, therapy becomes more effective, especially when a person is ready to process their emotions instead of avoiding them.

She also highlighted the importance of giving yourself space after a relationship ends. Kalki shared a perspective she finds useful, that people may need to spend a significant amount of time apart after a breakup, sometimes even half the duration of the relationship. This distance, she said, helps individuals deal with anger and hurt privately, without projecting those feelings onto their former partner.

With time and space, emotions begin to settle. Kalki explained that this is when people can start remembering the good parts of the relationship instead of focusing only on the pain. Reaching that stage, she believes, is a sign that both individuals may be emotionally ready to reconnect in a healthier way.

Talking about her own experience, Kalki Koechlin admitted that the first few years after her separation from Anurag Kashyap were particularly tough. Seeing each other move on was painful and they eventually realised that staying away from each other was necessary for healing. It took years of distance and emotional work before they could reach a comfortable place again. Today, she shared, they are on good terms and occasionally catch up.
