For years, public curiosity surrounding actor Imran Khan’s personal life has remained strong, especially after news of his separation from former wife Avantika Malik became public. While the actor has largely kept his private life away from the spotlight, his partner Lekha Washington has now shared rare insights into their relationship and the challenges that come with being under constant public scrutiny.
In a recent interview with a leading publication, Lekha openly spoke about the criticism and assumptions she has faced over the years. She said that women are often judged harshly and labelled without people knowing the full story behind their lives or relationships. According to her, such labels are frequently used to undermine women and place them in restrictive boxes. She stressed that she does not allow those opinions to define who she is and refuses to change herself to fit other people’s expectations.
She also pointed out that outsiders rarely know what truly happens within a relationship, making it unfair to pass judgment. Lekha expressed disappointment that, despite her professional achievements and creative work, discussions about her often focus on her connection to a man rather than her own identity and accomplishments.
Talking about her relationship with Imran Khan, Lekha described it as deeply meaningful and something she prefers to keep largely private. She shared that both of them invest time and effort into making the relationship work and value the bond they have built together. According to her, being with someone she loves is something she treasures and wants to protect from unnecessary public attention.
She added that, like any couple, they experience disagreements and challenges. However, she believes their relationship remains strong because both partners are willing to learn, grow and support each other. This mutual effort, she said, has helped them build a mature and grounded partnership.
Lekha also acknowledged that their relationship involves more than just the two of them. Family members are an important part of their journey, including Imran’s daughter Imaara whom he shares with Avantika Malik. She described the experience as layered, meaningful and filled with different responsibilities.
The couple’s story began long before they became romantically involved. Lekha revealed that she and Imran had known each other for around 15 years and belonged to the same social circle. Their friendship eventually grew stronger during the COVID-19 lockdown, a period she described as personally transformative.
Reflecting on that time, she spoke about coming out of a decade-long relationship that began in 2009. Although the relationship was not a marriage, she said it played a significant role in shaping her life. The isolation during the pandemic, she explained, forced her to confront aspects of herself that she had previously avoided.
Imran Khan, known for films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, is the nephew of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. He married Avantika Malik in 2011 and the couple welcomed their daughter Imaara in 2014. They separated in 2019 and have since moved forward with their lives, while largely choosing not to discuss the reasons behind their split publicly.
