Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel won many hearts on social media with her latest interaction which happened with a fan as it turned into one of the most talked about moments of her recent #AskAmy session on X.

During the Q&A, Ameesha Patel opened up the floor to fan questions and things took an interesting turn when one follower brought up a comparison between Preity Zinta’s upcoming role in Batwara 1947 and Ameesha’s own legendary character Sakina from Gadar.
The fan didn’t hold back, praising Ameesha’s unforgettable performance in the 2001 hit and pointing out that Preity’s look in the newly released Batwara 1947 trailer felt reminiscent of Sakina. In their message, the fan essentially said that watching the trailer gave them Sakina vibes, adding that while Preity seemed to be channeling something similar, no one could ever truly recreate the magic Ameesha and Sunny Deol created together in Gadar.
Rather than engaging with the comparison or getting into any kind of rivalry, Ameesha Patel took the high road. Her reply was warm, gracious and full of respect for her fellow actor. She responded by calling Preity Zinta beautiful in her own right, sending Sakina’s well wishes her way, and in a light, affectionate nod to Sunny Deol’s character Tara Singh, asked the fan to look after Tara until he returns to where he belongs.
The graceful response was loved by all, as it was noticed by fans – how Ameesha sidestepped any comparison and instead chose kindness toward Preity.
The connection between the two films isn’t random — both Gadar and Batwara 1947 are set during the backdrop of India’s Partition, one of the most defining and emotional chapters in Indian history.
Ameesha Patel played Sakina opposite Sunny Deol’s Tara Singh in the original Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, a film that became one of the biggest blockbusters in Hindi cinema history. Decades later, the iconic pair reunited for Gadar 2, which also turned out to be a massive box office success.
Now, with Sunny Deol once again starring in a Partition-era drama, this time in Batwara 1947 — it’s only natural that fans are drawing parallels between the two projects. That said, the makers have been clear that Batwara 1947 is a completely separate story, with its own unique characters, conflicts and narrative.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 stars Sunny Deol in the lead role alongside Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur, with Khali also a part of the cast. Ali Fazal appears in a special role in the film.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the period drama tells a story set during the Partition of India. Ever since its trailer dropped, the film has built up significant buzz and is all set to hit theaters on August 14, 2026, releasing right around the Independence Day weekend.
