New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has added another major achievement to his name after becoming the highest wicket-taker against India in T20 International cricket. The left-arm spinner broke his teammate Ish Sodhi’s long-standing record during the fourth T20I on Friday, October 30.

Mitchell Santner needed just one wicket to move past Ish Sodhi on the list and he went on to deliver an impressive performance, finishing with figures of 2 for 24 in his four overs. The New Zealand spinner made an immediate impact by dismissing Nitish Kumar Reddy on the very first ball of his opening over. He then struck again in the same over, removing Axar Patel on the fourth delivery.
With these two wickets, Mitchell Santner took his tally to 32 wickets in 31 T20I matches against India, who are three-time T20 World Cup champions. He is also the only bowler in the world to have registered two four-wicket hauls against India in T20Is.
Ish Sodhi, who previously held the record, has claimed 30 wickets in 25 T20I matches against India.

While Mitchell Santner now leads the list of bowlers with the most wickets against India in T20Is, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan holds the overall record for taking the most wickets against a single team in the format. Rashid Khan has dismissed 45 Ireland batters in just 21 T20I matches. He is also the only bowler in the world to have reached the milestone of 200 wickets in T20 International cricket.
England’s Adil Rashid occupies the next position on the list with 42 wickets in 26 matches against the West Indies. Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has also been highly successful against New Zealand, picking up 40 wickets in 20 T20I appearances. Among Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh holds the record for the most T20I wickets against South Africa, having taken 25 wickets in 15 matches.
The dismissal of Nitish Kumar Reddy also helped Mitchell Santner achieve another important milestone in his international career. He became only the third New Zealand cricketer to take 150 wickets in T20I cricket.

He joined former New Zealand stars Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi in the exclusive group. Ish Sodhi remains New Zealand’s highest wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, while Tim Southee finished his T20I career with 164 wickets.
Mitchell Santner’s latest achievement further highlights his consistency and importance to New Zealand’s white-ball setup.
