There is no denying the fact that the ultimate aim of every actor is to work in movies irrespective of the medium they start with because the big screen offers not only more money but more fame and recognition as well. Television has become a very big medium nowadays and its reach is massive as almost every family watches TV but still there are some successful TV actors who crave for working in movies. While few TV actors have achieved success in Bollywood as well such as Shah Rukh Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, etc., there are many who didn’t get the chance and there are some who have not been able to make it big despite getting chances in movies.
Here is a list of few TV actors who left their successful TV career for making it big in Bollywood but they didn’t achieve that much success as they expected:
1. Karan Singh Grover:
Karan Singh Grover, husband of Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, started his acting career with Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. He gained popularity after he got the chance to work in the famous show of Balaji Telefilms, Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 and his acting in Qubool Hai and Dill Mill Gayye was also praised. Karan has worked in few movies too but he has failed in pulling audiences towards cinema halls.
2. Aamna Sharif:
Aamna Sharif and Rajeev Khandelwal’s pairing was loved by viewers in Kahiin To Hoga and she was a household name at that time. The actress tried to take the benefit of her popularity in movies as well but her films didn’t work at the box-office.
3. Gurmeet Choudhary:
The actor became a household name in 2009 after portraying the character of Bhagwan Ram in the TV series Ramayana and then he appeared in few other serials and reality shows as well. He tried his luck in movies also but failed. He is currently married to his Ramayana co-actor Debina Bonnerjee with whom he has two daughters.
4. Prachi Desai:
The beautiful actress made her acting debut with Kasamh Se in which she played the female lead opposite one of the most popular TV actors, Ram Kapoor. She left the show to work in movies and though she worked with big names of Bollywood, still she didn’t get desired results in the movie industry.
5. Rajeev Khandelwal:
One of the most loved actors of the Indian television, Rajeev Khandelwal started his acting career with Kahiin To Hoga and he was an instant hit among the audiences. He worked in some other serials before shifting to Bollywood. Though his first movie “Aamir” was praised by critics yet it failed in working well at the box-office and he appeared in some other movies too but they also didn’t perform well at the box-office. Rajeev was seen recently in Shahid Kapoor starrer Bloody Daddy and his fans will certainly like to see him back on TV.
6. Shruti Seth:
For many people, she is still Jiya from the serial Shararat but Shruti Seth has also worked in many other serials and has hosted some shows as well. Though she tried her best in movies, still she failed to make her presence felt in Bollywood.
7. Jay Bhanushali:
Jay Bhanushali was loved by the audiences when he played the character of Neev Shergill in the serial Kayamath for which he won many awards as well. He took part in few reality shows and hosted many shows too, he also appeared in few movies but they didn’t work at the box-office and currently he is appearing in TV series Hum Rahe Na Rahe Hum opposite Tina Datta.
8. Sara Khan:
Sara Khan was touted as the next big actress of the Indian TV industry after Smriti Irani and Sakshi Tanwar as her serial Sapna Babul Ka… Bidaai was immensely popular among the audiences; however, she chose to shift to Bollywood and failed miserably.
9. Anita Hassanandani:
Natasha Hassanandani whose screen name is Anita has worked in many serials and she can easily be called one of the most popular actresses of the Indian television. Though she has worked in many movies (Hindi and southern language), she was not able to repeat the success that she achieved on television.
