The Indian music industry has suffered a huge setback recently as it lost two of its gems- Lata Mangeshkar (92 yrs old) and Bappi Lahiri (69 yrs old) within a span of less than two weeks. It won’t be wrong to say that it is difficult for many music lovers to even believe that they have lost the Nightingale of India and Disco King.

Other than his music, Bappi Da was famous for his love for gold as he was seen wearing a lot of gold jewelry and he was never seen without them and though many times people made fun of him also because of his jewelry, it did not affect him even a bit.

In an interview, Bappi Lahiri revealed the reason behind his obsession for gold, he stated that he was a huge fan and follower of Hollywood singer Elvis Presley and as he used to wear gold chains, Bappi Da said that he used to think he would also make a completely different image of himself if he became successful some day. He thanked the God for giving him a chance of doing it with gold.

The singer-music composer also stated that gold was lucky for him as when his mother made him wear a gold chain which had a locket with “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” engraved on it, she said that it would bring good luck for him and he got his first superhit movie “Zakhmi”. He added that with more hit movies came more gold chains as his family always gifted him gold. Bappi Lahiri said that after his mother, his wife Chitrani also gifted him gold chain with a locket of Lord Ganesha on his birthday in 1977 after he gave superhit songs “Aap Ki Khatir” and “Bambai se aaya mera dost”.

Once Bappi Lahiri appeared in the comedy talk show The Kapil Sharma Show in which he revealed that even Michael Jackson liked his Lord Ganesha locket when the King of Pop visited Mumbai. As per Bappi Da, MJ came to him, called his locket fantastic and also asked Bappi Da’s name. When the Indian composer told MJ his name, he asked whether he was a musician. In response, Bappi Da gave a positive reply and said that he had done Disco Dancer and then Michael Jackson said that he liked the Jimmy Jimmy song.
