Veteran Bollywood actress Meenakshi Seshadri recently shared her thoughts on how many celebrities today stay in the spotlight through publicity rather than meaningful work. In an interview, the actress spoke openly about the growing trend of entertainers focusing more on media attention than their craft.
Referring to the film The Dirty Picture, Meenakshi recalled the famous dialogue about entertainment being the center of the industry. She explained that many people today try to remain in the news through fashion choices, appearances, or controversies instead of actual performances and achievements. According to her, some celebrities manage to attract attention simply through publicity, whether by wearing glamorous outfits or by not wearing them. However, she made it clear that she does not believe in such methods and prefers to let her work speak for itself.
The actress also spoke about achieving long-term success without depending heavily on aggressive public relations campaigns. She quoted the English saying, “Nothing succeeds like success,” and stressed that the main goal should always be success achieved through talent, dedication and artistic work. She added that once genuine success is achieved, recognition and opportunities naturally follow.
Meenakshi Seshadri was one of the biggest stars of Bollywood during the 1980s and 1990s. She began her acting career with Painter Babu alongside Rajiv Goswami and later appeared in hit films like Hero, Meri Jung, Shahenshah, and Ghayal.

Her performance in Damini is still considered one of the strongest female performances in Hindi cinema, even 33 years after the film’s release. The movie also featured Sunny Deol, Rishi Kapoor and Amrish Puri.
A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Meenakshi later moved to the United States after marriage to focus on family life. She returned to Mumbai a few years ago and now regularly shares dance videos and performances on social media.
