No Oscars In 2025? Ceremony May Get Cancelled Due To The Wildfires In Los Angeles

For the first time in its history, the Oscars may face cancellation due to the devastating wildfires raging across Los Angeles. Reports suggest that the Academy Awards 2025, traditionally a glittering celebration of cinematic achievement, is under threat as the city grapples with a natural disaster of heartbreaking magnitude. The situation is being closely monitored by the Academy, with prominent figures like Tom Hanks, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg involved in the discussions.

A source has shared that the primary concern of the Academy’s leadership is the optics of celebrating amid widespread suffering and loss. Even if the fires were to be brought under control soon, the lingering pain and devastation in the city would overshadow any celebratory event. As a result, the organisation is considering shifting its focus to supporting relief efforts and fundraising initiatives when the time is right. Despite the uncertainty, the ceremony remains scheduled for March 2 but its fate hinges on the evolving situation.

The wildfires have already caused disruptions to the Academy’s plans, including a delay in the announcement of Oscars nominations. Originally set for January 17, the nominations will now be unveiled on January 19, with the voting period for nominees extended to accommodate the circumstances.

In a heartfelt message, Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the fires, noting the significant impact on the industry and many members living and working in the Los Angeles area. His letter conveyed the Academy’s solidarity with the community during this difficult time.

The repercussions of the fires have rippled beyond the Oscars. Other major events, such as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Tea Party, the AFI Awards luncheon, and the Critics Choice Awards, have also been postponed.

Meanwhile, the toll of the disaster continues to mount. Several lives have been lost, countless homes have been destroyed and entire neighborhoods have reduced to ashes. Among those directly impacted are well-known figures in Hollywood, including Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Mark Hamill, Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, Fergie, Anna Faris and Anthony Hopkins, many of whom have lost their homes to the fires.

Let’s pray for them!
