The Pakistani cricket team is certainly going through a tough phase as it is getting slammed heavily for its poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. Babar Azam-led squad was not able to enter the Super Eight stage as it lost its first league match to the debutants USA and then lost an almost won match to India.
The newly appointed head coach Gary Kirsten was so upset that he didn’t hesitate in saying that there is nothing in the Pakistani team because of which it can be called a team as nobody is interested in supporting their teammates.
Babar Azam gave up the captaincy after the team’s poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the new captain of the team but the PCB decided to reinstate Babar Azam as the skipper before the T20 World Cup which certainly didn’t go well with Shaheen Afridi.
The current coaching staff which is headed by Gary Kirsten and also includes former Pak cricketer Azhar Mahmood has submitted a report to the Pakistan Cricket Board which sheds light on the reasons behind the team’s poor performance.
As per a report published in a leading daily, the coaching staff has accused Shaheen Afridi of bad behaviour and lobbying , it is being said that he has behaved badly during the Ireland series, the England series and in the T20 World Cup as well but no action was taken against him and as a result, he continued to misbehave.
Shaheen Afridi is an integral part of the Pakistan team and there is no doubt that he is the best Pakistani pacer of the present times but if the PCB decides to take action on the basis of this report, then he may face some disciplinary action.
It will be interesting to see whether Shaheen Afridi will be seen in the Pakistani squad for the test series against Bangladesh which will be played in Pakistan or the PCB will take any action against him.
