TRAI Questions Reliance Jio On Free Voice Call Offers, No More Free Voice Calling?

Reliance, is offering the cheapest mobile data network and the mobile tariffs for the smartphone users in the world. Jio is offering free roaming, free domestic voice calls and extremely low cost data plans. Mr. Ambani says that this 4G network would cover around 1.25 billion people in India i.e. around 90 percent of the population by March 2017.

The telecom companies like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and BSNL, trying their best to come up with plans and offers which can help them get their customers back. To compete with this, Airtel had launched a lucrative offer of unlimited 4G data for just Rs 1495, following which Vodafone offered 10GB data on recharge of 1GB.

Now there’s another update in the telecom war, Telecom regulatory authority (TRAI) has asked for explanation from Reliance Jio Infocomm over the company’s free-calling offer. The offer differs from the Rs 1.20 per minute voice tariff plan filed with the regulator.

Currently IUC rate is currently 14 paise per minute, but Jio has made calls free. As a result the TRAI is now seeking clarifications from Reliance Jio. Soon Reliance may have to make changes in their tariff plans, which would be intimidated to the telecom regulator. The senior TRAI officials met Reliance Jio executives to discuss the matter.
