There is no denying the fact that engineers contribute a lot in the development of the country and to honour their contribution, we recently celebrated Engineer’s Day on 15 September, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a Bharat Ratna recipient and one of the most distinguished engineers of India.
Do you know that there are many Bollywood celebrities who initially pursued engineering before making their mark in the film industry? Yes, you read that right!
Here in this article, we have listed some actors who transitioned from engineering to acting:
1. Vicky Kaushal
Known for his stellar performances in movies like “Uri: The Surgical Strike”, “Sam Bahadur” and “Raazi”, Vicky Kaushal has firmly established himself as one of the leading actors of Bollywood. Before entering the world of cinema, Vicky earned a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Mumbai’s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in 2009.
2. Taapsee Pannu
With critically acclaimed roles in films like “Pink”, “Thappad”, “Naam Shabana”, “Baby”, “Haseen Dilruba” and many more, Taapsee Pannu has made a name for herself as a versatile actress. She holds a Computer Science Engineering degree from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology, New Delhi. During her college years, Taapsee and her friends developed an app called FontSwap, which allowed iPhone users to change fonts on their phones.
3. Jitendra Kumar
Jitendra Kumar who is quite famous for his portrayal of Jeetu Bhaiya in “Kota Factory” is an IIT Kharagpur graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering. His love for acting and storytelling eventually led him to pursue a career in cinema. He is known for his roles in “Panchayat”, “TVF Pitchers”, “Permanent Roommates”, “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan” and “Jaadugar”.
4. Kriti Sanon
Kriti Sanon has impressed audiences with her performances in films like “Mimi”, “Luka Chuppi” and “Bareilly Ki Barfi”. She holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida. After a brief stint in modeling, she made her Bollywood debut opposite Tiger Shroff in “Heropanti”.
5. Ameesha Patel
Ameesha Patel debuted opposite Hrithik Roshan in the 2000 blockbuster “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”. Before entering films, she studied Bio-genetic Engineering for two years at Tufts University in Boston, USA, before switching to Economics. After receiving a job offer from Morgan Stanley, she chose to pursue acting, joining a theatre group and embarking on her journey in Bollywood.
6. Kartik Aaryan
Kartik Aaryan, known for films like “Pyaar Ka Punchnama”, “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety”, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2”, “Freddy” and “Satyaprem Ki Katha”, hails from Gwalior. Before stepping into Bollywood, he pursued a degree in Biotechnology Engineering from D. Y. Patil College of Engineering, Navi Mumbai.
These actors have successfully made the shift from engineering to acting, showcasing their diverse talents and determination in both the fields.
