The country is still basking in the joy of the Indian women’s cricket team’s first ever World Cup win. The celebrations brought together generations of players and one touching moment where the current squad shared warm hugs with icons Jhulan Goswami, Mithali Raj and Anjum Chopra quickly captured the hearts of fans online.
Amid all the excitement, a familiar question resurfaced – would this emotional high finally push Chakda Xpress, Jhulan Goswami’s long-awaited biopic starring Anushka Sharma, towards release?
Jhulan Goswami, however, keeps her hopes grounded. In a recent interview, she said that she had no new information about any release plans. Despite the film being completed back in 2022, it has faced setbacks due to rights and distribution issues with Netflix. She simply said that she wasn’t aware of any updates and hoped for the best, reflecting her calm and patient nature.
Reports had earlier suggested that the makers of Chakda Xpress had written to Netflix’s top Indian executives, urging them to reconsider and give the film a chance. According to these reports, the team felt that the story of a cricket legend deserved to reach audiences. There were also claims that Netflix had been unhappy with how the film had shaped up, especially after it went over budget. Yet, some insiders insisted that despite the challenges, the film remained strong at its core.
Sources further shared that the recent World Cup victory has renewed internal discussions at Netflix. The platform is reportedly reviewing the project again, with a final decision expected soon on whether the film needs additional work before release.
For fans, the anticipation goes beyond cricket. Chakda Xpress also marks the return of Anushka Sharma who has been away from the screen for more than seven years. Her last appearance was in the 2018 film Zero. With the nation’s attention once again on Jhulan Goswami’s remarkable journey, many hope that this real-life triumph will finally bring her reel-life story to theatres or streaming screens at last.
Let’s hope Jhulan Goswami’s biopic releases soon.
