Karan Johar has hit pause on social media, choosing to step away from Instagram for a brief but intentional break. On Monday evening, the filmmaker informed his followers through Instagram Stories that he would be logging off the platform for about a week. He made it clear that during this time, he would stay away from scrolling, posting or even responding to messages.
Sharing his decision in a light-hearted yet honest note, Karan hinted that the break is meant to disconnect from constant online noise and give himself space away from screens. The filmmaker described it as a short digital detox, hoping to stay disciplined and truly unplug for the week.
He wrote, “Digital Detox for a week ! No doom scrolling! No DMs! No posts! May the universe give me the strength to stay away!!!!”
Before signing off, Karan made sure to leave his followers with a final update. He posted a video still of Alia Bhatt wishing everyone a Happy Republic Day, marking a warm and familiar send-off before his temporary absence from Instagram.
In the days leading up to his break, Karan had been quite active online. He openly celebrated the strong box office performance of two recent Bollywood releases — Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and Sunny Deol’s Border 2. In his post, he expressed confidence in the Hindi film industry’s resurgence, suggesting that emotionally driven stories continue to connect deeply with audiences despite constant criticism around Bollywood’s future.
Karan had also recently spoken up in support of Varun Dhawan who faced heavy trolling over his expressions in Border 2. Many social media users questioned Varun’s suitability for a war film, focusing particularly on his smile in the trailer and songs. Without naming critics directly, Karan dismissed online outrage as fleeting and meaningless, stressing that real-world impact and audience response matter far more than virtual noise.
With this brief break, Karan Johar appears to be choosing balance over buzz, reminding everyone that even the most plugged-in personalities sometimes need time offline.
