Serious global events often unfold on television screens and news portals but on social media, the tone can be very different. As tensions escalated between the United States, Israel and Iran, timelines across platforms filled not only with updates and analysis but also with a surprising wave of humor. At the center of this online trend was North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, turned into an unlikely meme sensation.
While international coverage focused on military strikes and diplomatic strain in the Middle East, Internet users began sharing jokes that portrayed Kim as a powerful figure watching everything from the sidelines. Many posts playfully imagined him feeling left out of the geopolitical drama, creating a strange contrast between real world conflict and online satire.
The trend quickly gained traction on platforms like X, Instagram and TikTok. Users posted edited images, reaction clips and humorous scenarios suggesting Kim Jong Un had “FOMO” about not being directly involved. Some memes showed him standing with missiles, others pictured him waiting for an invitation, while a few framed him as a spectator closely following global developments.
