The middle order woes of the Indian cricket team should end now as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have returned to the team after recovering from their respective injuries but nothing can be said about their match fitness as they haven’t played any competitive cricket after getting fit. Though both of them have undergone match simulations and have played friendly matches, many experts believe that simulations and friendly matches are no match to competitive games.
As of now, Shreyas Iyer has been declared completely fit but KL Rahul has got a niggle which is not related to his original injury and it is being said that this is not serious and Rahul will be fine by the second or third match of the Asia Cup 2023.
Earlier, the former head coach of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri talked about the times when he thought of shifting Virat Kohli to the number 4 position during his stint with team India. However, this didn’t happen at that time and recently he once again suggested this thing during a panel discussion. The majority of the former Indian cricketers rejected this suggestion as they feel that Virat Kohli is the best batter of the country and there should be no change in his position as he has been playing at number three for almost a decade now.
Now, the former South African cricketer AB de Villiers who shares a great bond with Virat Kohli has also responded on this matter. AB de Villiers has played a lot with Virat Kohli as he was associated with the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore for a long time and while speaking on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers states that he has heard some rumours about Virat Kohli batting at number 4 and he would be a big supporter of that.
ABD is of the opinion that Virat Kohli is a perfect player for number 4 as he is capable of playing any role in the middle order but he is not sure whether Virat will like to do that. He adds that Kohli loves to bat at number 3 and he has scored all the runs at that position but if the team wants him to play a new role, than he should go for it.
Should Virat Kohli play at number 4 or should he keep playing at number 3? What are your views? Let us know.
