More than two decades after its release, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam continues to be remembered as one of the most beloved romantic Bollywood films. Released in the year 1999 and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie won audiences over with its emotional story, memorable music and the on-screen chemistry between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

Among the film’s many popular songs, the heartbreak track “Tadap Tadap” remains a fan favourite. Recently, music composer Ismail Darbar shared an interesting memory from the film’s production and revealed how deeply the song affected Salman Khan.
According to Ismail Darbar, there was a moment when Sanjay Leela Bhansali was listening to the song with members of the team. During the session, the atmosphere suddenly became emotional and quiet. Ismail Darbar recalled that Salman Khan admitted the song brought back intense feelings whenever he heard it and requested that it not be played in front of him. The composer said he witnessed the actor becoming extremely emotional and visibly distressed while listening to the track.

The revelation has once again sparked interest in the film, especially because of the widely discussed relationship between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai during that period.
In an earlier interview, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had also reflected on the experience of making the film. He admitted that the love was in the air but also added that it was not just about the two actors but among the whole cast. He described the atmosphere on set as being filled with warmth, affection and strong bonds among the cast and crew. Along with Salman and Aishwarya, the film featured actors such as Zohra Sehgal, Helen, Vikram Gokhale and Smita Jayekar. Sanjay Leela Bhansali said the team felt like one big family and that it remained one of the most fulfilling filmmaking experiences of his career.

Reports suggest that Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai ended their relationship in 2002 and never worked together again. Years later, in a 2012 interview with Simi Garewal, Aishwarya chose not to discuss the breakup in detail, explaining that she preferred not to revisit that chapter of her life publicly.
Aishwarya later married Abhishek Bachchan in April 2007 and the couple welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, in 2011.
Even today, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam remains a landmark film and stories from its making continue to fascinate fans years after its release.
