Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had the audience laughing on the recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 when he shared a funny memory from his college days.
The episode began with him welcoming Shruti Jain, a contestant from Mumbai. When Shruti explained that she preferred a simple court marriage instead of a big traditional wedding and said she wanted a meaningful marriage rather than just a ceremony, Amitabh Bachchan praised her and said that he had learned a new modern term to describe someone like her – “she is very sorted”.
He then recalled a mischievous time from his student life and admitted that back in college, he and his friends had very little money, sometimes just two rupees of pocket money. Whenever they felt hungry in the evening, they would look for a wedding happening nearby and sneak in pretending to be guests. He said that when the gatekeeper asked them anything, they would say they were with the people behind and go inside to eat and after having food, they would leave. Amitabh Bachchan joked that if more people started doing court marriages like Shruti, people like him from those days would have nowhere to go for free food. The audience burst out laughing and Senior Bachchan himself laughed while sharing the story.
In an earlier season of KBC, he had revealed how, during his time in Calcutta (now Kolkata), he once survived mostly on pani-puris because his salary was very low while working at Bird & Company. He said he earned only about three hundred to four hundred rupees a month and used to fill himself up every day with puchkas near Victoria Memorial, which he still remembers as some of the best he ever had.
Meanwhile, the contestant Shruti admitted that she still couldn’t believe she was sitting on the hot seat in front of Amitabh Bachchan. She said she was nervous but also very grateful to be participating in the show opposite such a legendary host.
